HOS Show Featured in Today’s Star-Advertiser
The Honolulu Orchid Society Show got some free press when it was featured in today’s (Wednesay, September 19, 2012) Star-Advertiser. See the Features Section, Page D-5. The article read as follows:
‘Galaxy of Orchids’ on display at show
Dazzling displays of rare and fantastic orchids will be on view at the Honolulu Orchid Society’s 73rd Annual Orchid Flower and Plant Show Oct. 5-7 in the Washington Middle School cafeteria.
New to this year’s show, whose theme is “Galaxy of Orchids,” are collections of rare jewel orchid species and bulbophyllums, which put out spectacular — and sometimes bad-smelling — blooms.
The best flowers from six orchid societies will be competing for trophies, and less experienced growers can buy easy-care orchid hybrids.
Expert growers will be demonstrating techniques for coaxing the best flowers from cattleyas, dendrobiums and other orchids, and a “plant doctor” will be on hand to offer advice (make sure specimens are in a sealed plastic bag). Tools and supplies will also be available.
The free event will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 5-6 and until 3 p.m. Oct. 7 (plant sale closes at 2 p.m.).
Classes will be held at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Oct. 5-6, and 11 a.m. Oct. 7. For more information, visit honoluluorchidsociety.org.
