World Authority on Vanilla Appears at HOS Meeting

Dr. Ken Cameron, world authority on the Vanilla Orchid, spoke at the February 13 meeting of the Honolulu Orchid Society.  His one hour presentation covered a wide gamut of topics on Vanilla from its history, uses, geography, grex, cultivation, pollination, economics, DNA and research.  The audience of about 50 members and guests were captivated by his expertise, demeanor and smooth style of presentation.  Dr. Cameron is a professor at the University of Wisconsin and the Director of the Wisconsin State Herbarium.  He was hosted by Dr. Ingelia White, a professor at Windward Community College and HOS trustee.  Ronald Yamanaka, a resident of Kaneohe, brought a vanilla vine to the meeting that was about a 100 feet long.  The vine was cut into pieces for attendees to take home and grow.
