In Bloom – Bulbophyllum vaginatum

In Bloom – Bulbophyllum vaginatum

We purchased Bulb. vaginatum four years ago from the late Wilbur Chang.  The plant was transplanted into a wooden basket using New Zealand Sphagnum Moss as the medium.  The plant receives afternoon lighting under 50% shade at our home in Mililani.  The plant is watered early in the morning and in the afternoon during the Summer months.  The plant is fed 13-2-13 fertilizer and dolomite.  We displayed the plant at the Aiea Orchid Club meeting on June 24, 2013 (see photo below).  When displayed the plant was in its fourth day of blooming.  The blooms were at its peak on the third day.  (Article contributed by Calvin and Sherry Abe.)
