The Honolulu Orchid Society held an Appreciation Luncheon at the Treetops Restaurant in Manoa on Sunday, October 27.  60 people attended the buffet luncheon which included Show helpers and volunteers, vendors, lecturers and Washington Middle School representatives.  A big Mahalo goes to Williette Wong and Ben Sills for co-chairing another successful Show.  Both have co-chaired HOS’ annual Shows for the past several years.  Ben Sills announced that a contract has already been signed with Washington Middle School to be the site for next year’s 75th Annual Show on October 10-12, 2014.  In her message to the audience, Williette Wong thanked everyone for their hard work.  She gave special thanks to Ben Kodama, Sr.,  and Ben Kodama, Jr., for sponsoring the Best in Show Trophy and providing the equipment and facilities to make the orchid potting mix that was sold at the Show as a fund raiser.  During the luncheon, HOS President Ruth Chun presented a check to Washington Middle School Principal Mike Harano.  The check in the amount of $2,500 was a donation from HOS to the School.  Ruth also presented a check in the amount of $805 to Joan Fujio, coordinator of the School’s Special Olympics team.  The $805 was the profit from selling sweetbread during the Show.  The luncheon was a very happy and fun occasion.  Everyone enjoyed the food and friendship of those in attendance.  It was a nice closure to the 2013 Honolulu Orchid Society Show.
