Dendrobium Waianae Blush Captures Best In Show Again

Dendrobium Waianae Blush ‘Miya’ owned by H&R Nurseries won the Best in Show at the Honolulu Orchid Society’s 79th Annual Orchid Show.  This is the third year in a row that this Dendrobium has won the Best in Show at the Honolulu Orchid Society’s shows.  Besides winning the Best in Show trophy, the plant was given a very high award for cultural merit by the Society’s judges.  The Orchid Show with a theme of Orchids by the Sea is being more »

Sheldon Takasaki of Carmela Orchids Will Speak at Wednesday’s HOS Meeting

Sheldon Takasaki, owner of Carmela Orchids, will be the guest speaker at Wednesday’s (October 10, 2018) general membership meeting of the Honolulu Orchid Society.  Sheldon will be speaking on how he grows his vandas and other orchid genera at his nursery located on the Big Island.  Sheldon is one of the vendors selling at the Honolulu Orchid Society Show which opens on Friday, October 12, 2018 at the Washington Middle School cafeteria. “Organic Inputs for Your Orchids” to be Discussed at Wednesday’s HOS Meeting

Dr. Amjad Ahmad from the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources at the University of Hawaii-Manoa will be the guest speaker at Wednesday’s (August 8, 2018) meeting of the Honolulu Orchid Society. His presentation on “Organic Inputs for Your Orchids” will focus on three topics: biochar and its benefits and uses; seedlings media improvement; and vermicompost and compost tea. Dr. Ahmad graduated with a PhD degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Management from the University of Hawaii in 2009. more »
