HOS Display Nice But Not Best at Aiea Orchid Show

The Honolulu Orchid Society was one of six orchid societies that put up a display at the 32nd Annual Aiea Orchid Show held June 7-9, 2013 at the Aiea Elementary School.  HOS’ display featured Ken and Aileen Ching’s Epidendrum raniferum which won the Best in Show Trophy.  The Epi. raniferum was also selected as the Best Flowering Specimen Plant.  The HOS display included Pam Waki’s Ascocentrum miniatum (Best Vanda), Bradley Lau’s Oncidium Gower Ramsay (Best Oncidium) and Ken and Aileen Ching’s Laelia purpurata (Best Cattleya).  There were many other noteworthy plants in the display which did not win trophies but enhanced the beauty of the HOS display.  HOS’s display was not deemed the best but as Williette Wong put it:  “It was fun.  We had a good time.  Our display was nice.”  The display by the Hawaii Kai Orchid Society won the first place trophy.
