In Bloom – Dendrobium heterocarpum

This is a plant that I purchased from Hawaiian Orchid Source in July 2007 on an orchid field trip to Waimanalo.  At that time the plant was a small seedling growing in a 2-inch clay pot.  The plant got my attention when the label said it was a yellow honohono.  The plant has subsequently bloomed and has been identified as Den. heterocarpum.  The blooms appear on leafless canes with 3 to 4 flowers appearing at each node.  The longest cane is 42 inches long.  The flowers unfortunately do not have a scent.  This article and photos were submitted by Mel Waki.
