Calvin Abe’s “Tokyo Dome” Orchid Show Highlights

Do you miss orchid shows? This month travel with Calvin Abe back to 2015, 2016 and 2019 to visit the Japan Grand Prix International Orchid and Flower Shows held in the Tokyo Dome. See spectacular displays and award-winning individual orchids. Peek behind-the-scenes at how the elaborate displays are constructed.
Calvin is an award-winning orchid grower. He taught graphics and photography at Pearl City High School for many years. When he fell ill in 2003, Calvin received several orchids that soon needed his care to survive, so he set out to learn about orchid culture. After retiring in 2005 and having more time to devote to his new hobby, he volunteered at an orchid nursery, where he gained valuable hands-on experience, and was introduced to the subject of his November 10th presentation.
November’s meeting will also feature an auction of orchids and items donated by Honolulu Orchid Society members and friends. Plants and items for local pickup only. HOS welcomes guests from Hawaii orchid clubs and others interested in orchids. Presentation via Zoom video conferencing. Registration required by Nov. 9.
