This hybrid of Grt. Why Not x Bc. Richard Mueller was made by H&R Nurseries in the late 1990s and registered in 2000. I’ve had the plant since the early 2000s and is one of three seedlings I purchased. This cross was made using the red form of Grt. Why Not. The flowers open red and change to yellow over time, hence the name Hidden Gold. Some have spotted lips, and most have solid color sepals and petals. This cultivar is one of the few that have spots on the sepals and petals. This plant was recently awarded an AM/AOS (80 pts.) from the American Orchid Society.

Very nice. Did you give it the regustered name ‘Hidden Gold’? Good name.

This cross was registered by H&R Nurseries, and Roy Tokunaga named it because of the color change over time.
