This species is found in Peru and Northern Brazil and can produce either male or female flowers, just like Catasetums. This plant produced two female flowers with a darker colored lip and very firm substance. This species is part of the Heteranthae section of Cycnoches, with male flowers producing a different lip shape than the female flowers. Flowers are very fragrant with some describing the fragrance as chocolate-like. This species is fairly popular in cultivation, has garnered many awards, and has been used many times in hybridizing.
