This is a recently described species from the Yunnan province in China. It has also been found in Vietnam. This species grows on the undersides of branches at elevations of 1000 to 2000 meters. Although favoring cool growing conditions, it is tolerant of a wide temperature range. Because this is considered a cool growing plant, I was reluctant to attempt growing this species. Den. hekouense has proven to be easy to grow and bloom in intermediate growing conditions in Nuuanu.
