Maxillaria endresii is a small to large growing, Spring blooming, epiphyte found in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. It has been found growing up to 700m in elevation in warm to hot temperatures. The flowers are about 10-13cm wide with long spider-like sepals and petals that cross each other in front of the column. The fragrance reminds me of lavender, but not overpowering. This plant rewarded me with a flush of 34 flowers this year. The only other time this plant bloomed for me was two years ago and only had 4 flowers. I strongly believe that stopping all fertilizing in the winter triggered the flush of flowers, as the Nitrogen levels will have been low enough to not impede on flower production.
