This is a hybrid of Mps. Ambre x Lynn Waihee. It was hybridized by Ivan Komoda of Maui and registered by James Fang of Hilo Orchid Farm. Most Miltoniopsis perfer the upper end of intermediate to cool conditions. Mps. Ambre’s Charm shows a high degree of temperature tolerance due to it being 51% Mps. roezlii. This plant is growing in a 4″ plastic pot with New Zealand sphagnum moss. It is in a covered greenhouse out of the rain. Mps. Ambre’s Charm has been a very reliable bloomer in Nuuanu.
Beautiful example of Miltoniopsis hybrid, many were grown in Maui and now offered through Big Island nurseries such as Hilo Orchid Farm. They vary in color and pattern but have large showy flowers and are known as “Pansy orchids”. They have relatively thin delicate roots and need to be kept evenly moist, a cooler climate with good ventilation is helpful.
Is the size of the flower in the photo that actual size? It’s bigger than my hand. Really pretty.
