Orchid Mix to be Sold at the 2022 Honolulu Orchid Society Orchid Show

The Honolulu Orchid Society will be making a limited quantity of orchid mix that will be sold at the Honolulu Orchid Society Show on October 7 and 8, 2022, at Washington Middle School. The orchid mix will be packaged into 2 gallon and 5 gallon bags. The 2 gallon bag will be sold for $10 and the 5 gallon bag will be sold for $20. The orchid mix which can be used for growing all orchid genera will contain orchid bark, peat moss, perlite and nutrients. The orchid mix will be available at the Society’s Country Store.
Recently prices have gone up for bark and other orchid media products. These are pre-mixed and ready to use. The smaller 2 gallon bags are good for those with smaller plant collections or live in a limited growing area like a condo or apartment.
Thanks very much for everyone that purchased our bark mix at the show. We did pre-show sales and sold out by midday on Saturday. Next time we will try to make more bark mix to sell but we did not want to have an excess.
If you purchased our bark please open the bag and let it air out well to remove any moisture that can linger in a closed bag. Once dry you can reclose and seal the bag in a dry area. It’s good to use up the bark and not let it store for a long time.
Good advice about opening the bag to let moisture out. If you store the moist orchid mix over a long period of time, mold will grow in the mix and make the mix unsuitable for potting orchids. Best to use the mix while it’s still fresh.
