This is a correction to the original post. Rlc. Rubescence is a hybrid of Rlc. Oconee x C. Seagull’s Apricot. C. Seagull’s Apricot is a parent of C. Mini Apricot (C. Seagull’s Apricot x C. coccinea). Rlc. Exotic Regal Ruby is 50% C. coccinea.

I believe that this plant is Ctna. Azza ‘Helen’, a hybrid of C. Interglossa x Bro. sanguinea. This cultivar originated with the late Walter Tsuda. Walter sold divisions of his plant at the Orchid Society of Manoa Show many years ago.

During the cloning process, mutations can occur. One type of mutation that can happen is the doubling of the chromosome number. This is called a polyploid. Polyploids generally, have fuller shaped flowers and heavier substance. The inflorescence can be thicker than the diploid form. The plant below is a polyploid form of Ctt. Orange Walker.

I think it would tolerate the warmer end of intermediate conditions. It should grow in Aiea Heights, Manoa, Kaneohe, Kahaluu, Mililani and Wahiawa if given around 60% shade with good air movement.

The plant is in a five inch plastic pot with New Zealand sphagnum moss as my media. There is also some styrofoam peanuts in the pot to provide some drainage. During the dormant season I cut back on the watering and fertilizing. I keep the media slightly moist, but do not allow it to go completely dry. My Catasetinae are grown in a covered greenhouse, so they are out of the rain.
