Lorenzo’s Recipe for Treating Driftwood

During the August Honolulu Orchid Society meeting. Lorenzo Ordinado explained that driftwood and other woody materials such as tree branches should be treated with lime before they are used to mount orchids.  Here is Lorenzo’s recipe for the lime treatment: a.  Pour one cup of lime (powder form) in a 5-gallon bucket.  Fill the bucket with water and mix the solution.  Soak the driftwood or tree branch in the solution for 3 days. b.  After 3 days, empty the bucket.  more »

Lorenzo Ordinado Will Be the Guest Speaker at Wednesday’s HOS Meeting

Lorenzo Ordinado will demonstrate various methods of mounting and hanging orchids at Wednesday’s (August 10 2016) General Membership Meeting of the Honolulu Orchid Society (HOS).  Lorenzo is a hobbyist who has been growing growing orchids for many years at his Kaneohe residence.  He is a member of the Windward Orchid Society and the Orchid Species Club.  The meeting will begin at 7:00 PM at the Lanakila Elementary School cafeteria.  Guests are more than welcome to attend.  There is ample free more »
