A presentation of the 2017 World Orchid Conference that was held at Ecuador in November 2017 will be given at the Honolulu Orchid Society (HOS) meeting on Wednesday, May 9, 2018.  The presentation will be given by Dr. Ingelia White and Dr. Hongwei Li.  Dr. White recently retired as Professor of Botany and Microbiology and Coordinator of the Agripharmatech Program at the Windward Community College.  She taught for 35 years at the College.  Dr. Li is an Instructor in Microbiology more »

Coming Up–Manoa Orchid Show, May 5-6, 2018

The Honolulu Orchid Society will be putting up a display at the Manoa Orchid Show. Set up for the display is Friday evening, May 4, 2018 at the Noelani Elementary School Cafeteria. Members who wish to help with the display or enter plants in the display should be at the School around 5:30 PM or a little thereafter. Amy Jacobsen from San Francisco will be the guest speaker at Wednesday’s (April 11, 2018) meeting of the Honolulu Orchid Society (HOS).  Amy will be speaking on the varieties of Laelia purpurata.  She is well known in this field and has more than 150 varieties of Laelia purpurata in her collection.  Many were obtained on her visits to Brazil and other countries in South America.  Amy is an enthusiastic hobbyist orchid grower.  She is an American Orchid Society judge and more »
