The Honolulu Orchid Society Board of Trustees is recommending a change to the Society By-Laws to reduce the number of the members required for a quorum from fifty (50) to thirty (30). The Board believes this amendment is important because the Society by-laws state that the bylaws can only be amended at a meeting of the Society in which a quorum is present and recent experiences suggest that it may be difficult to get fifty members present at a meeting. more »
Dr. Ingelia White, Professor of Botany and Microbiology, and Coordinator of the Agripharmatech Program at the University of Hawaii—Windward Community College will be the featured speaker at Wednesday’s (August 9, 2017) meeting of the Honolulu Orchid Society. She will be speaking on the antifungal and nutritional values of Vanda Miss Joaquim. Vanda Miss Joaquim is commonly used for making Vanda leis. The Honolulu Orchid Society put up a display at the 2017 Ewa Orchid Show. Adam Almeida coordinated the display. More than a dozen members showed up at the Ewa Elementary School on Thursday, July 20, 2017, to help with construction of the display. Construction which incorporated the Show theme “Back in Da 50’s” started at 11:00 AM and was completed before 2:00 PM. There was a short pause for lunch at noon time. Approximately 30 people attended the field trip to H&R Nurseries on July 15, 2017. Participants were given a tour of the nursery by Harry Akagi and Roy Tokunaga. Everyone had a good time on a beautiful sunny day.
