  1. What do you have for your potting media and setup for the E. Cindy? Any tips for these type of Encyclia would be appreciated.

  2. Hi Steve, for Encyclia Cindy and most of other cattleya/laelia/Schomburgkia/encyclia plants are potted in the following mix:

Bottom pot, 65-75% in red lava rock in 3/4″ size
Top 25 – 35% in a coconut/small lava rock/perlite mix (2 parts small lava rock + 1 part perlite + 1 part coconut chip). They are grown in greenhouse where day temp = 90F – 115F, night temp = 55F – 60F. Yes, there is a big difference on day and night temp.

    In Winter, day temp = 75F – 95F, night temp = 45F – 55F with heater set to 56F.

All cattleya plants are watered once a week, heavyly watered in summer and lighter in winter. For winter cloudy weeks, water may be skipped a week. Cattleya purpurata and Laelia anceps get much less water in the winter.

Hope it helps, my email is tanyah.lam@gmail.com if you have more questions.
