HOS Undertakes a Service Project at Kodama Orchid Nursery

About a dozen members from the Honolulu Orchid Society and some members from the Kunia Orchid Society and Aiea Orchid Club met at the Kodama Orchid Nursery on Saturday, December 7, 2019, to clear vegetation and pull weeds.  It was a service project to help Ben Kodama, Jr.  The project was spearheaded by Kate Leonard.  It was agreed beforehand that it would be a four hour project from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon.  Fortunately, there was a heavy cloud cover that provided good protection from the usually hot Waianae sun.  The group worked hard and cleaned a significant portion of the nursery.  Ian’s chain saw and hedge trimmer were life savers.  Inez’s and Mel’s weed whackers were put to good use.  Jan used her reciprocating saw to cut some koa trees.  The cut vegetation was bagged or hauled to an accumulation site.  The nursery looked much improved when the group left at noontime.  The group reconvened for lunch at the Golden Wheel Chinese Restaurant in Waianae town before heading home.  Everyone ended the day with a good feeling–a little sore but satisfying.  The photos below were taken by Kathy Sakuda.
